John Denver became a star through the folk-inspired songs he composed, the majority of them located in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell in New Mexico. He was enthralled by Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's popular songs about his home state drew many tourists to Colorado. G. Brown of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame states that John Denver is unlike any other artist who embodies Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fame's first ever inductee. He is now the symbol of Colorado for all people. You meet people in other nations, for instance New Zealanders. They tell them "I come from Colorado" and they respond with "Oh John Denver. Brown clarified. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo artist following a short stint in small folk bands. Danoff composed the song to Johnny Cash but Denver recognized the song's potential when he first heard it. Danoff recorded the song within a couple of days of having performed in Washington D.C. before an large crowd who were very appreciative.
